MITCHELL STREET ARTS

A nonprofit commons dedicated to
promoting creative abundance in Milwaukee.

  • Artist in Residence

A juried residency program open to Milwaukee based artists.

  • Public Stage

A place for euphoria, reflection, and revelry. We host a large variety of programming: spoken word poetry, multi-lingual stand up comedy, small jazz shows, among other things!

  • Makerspace

A place for professional artists to collaborate and everyone to learn. Our makerspace hosts a wood shop, ceramics studio, photo darkroom, and more!

  • Art Classes

We offer a wide variety of arts classes taught by our artists-in-residents, members, and instructors. Ranging from pottery to analog photography, candle making to woodworking

Through sharing resources, we reduce costs and other barriers that hinder the work for a better, more creative, world.

Our goal is to serve as a site for collective reimagining around what’s possible.

Artist-in-Residence

Artist-in-Residence

Mitchell Street Arts’ NEST & TWIG Residencies provide artists from around Milwaukee and around the world with dedicated time, space, and resources to create new works, experiment, and conduct research. The programs promote the sharing of ideas and relationship building between local and national artists.

A Foundation of Innovation.

We are the third tenant inside a 122 year old building. First built to be The Kunzelmann-Esser Furniture Co., and later the home to Mitchell Street Menswear. Folks often tell us how they once bought furniture here, or their first prom suit.

Historic Mitchell Street was called Milwaukee’s main street of the Southside, featuring Goldmann’s Department Store, Shuster’s, and dozens of other family businesses. Our neighborhood was, and continues to be, built by immigrants. As a progressive beehive, we work to promote the Mitchell Street Community in designing our own tomorrow.
