THE ARTIST IN RESIDENCIES OF MiSA

The Mitchell Street Arts’ TWIG & NEST Residencies provide artists from around Milwaukee and around the world with dedicated time, space, and resources to create new works, experiment, and conduct research. The programs promote the sharing of ideas and relationship building between local and non-local artists. The residency is open to visual, sound and interdisciplinary artists.

  • TWIG

The TWIG is our studio program for artists based in Milwaukee. TWIG residents enjoy private studio space inside our main building on Mitchell Street, 24 hour access to our 3000 square foot production shop, a cohort gallery exhibition, and opportunities to learn and network with various local and regional artists.

  • NEST (COMING SOON)

The NEST is our residential program for national artists outside Milwaukee. NEST residents enjoy comfortable live/work studios, 24 hour access to our 3000 square foot production shop, membership and 24 hour access to the 60,000 square foot industrial workshop at Milwaukee Makerspace. Through our partners, we also offer opportunities to meet local and regional artists, arts professionals, and others that may specifically help advance a resident’s practice.

COMMUNITY

The NEST & TWIG residency programs are designed to strengthen Milwaukee’s arts sector internally by providing resources to local emerging artists and externally by expose our beloved scene to more folks from around the world. We encourage interaction and collaboration between TWIG & NEST residents; presentations and open studios among the residents are optional and spontaneous, providing opportunities to share work with fellow cohort members.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

While it is our goal to provide funding to TWIG residents, we cannot do so at this time. U.S.-based NEST artists-in-residence receive a monthly stipend. Due to the limitations of B2 visas (touring/visiting), international artists-in-residence are eligible to receive reimbursement of qualified expenses, such as airfare, ground transportation, and meals. TWIG residents do not receive a stipend.
